About I’m Heavy Duty!
ImHeavyDuty.com started as a site about my brain surgery experience. I was considering starting a site with people’s personal stories about dealing with various challenges and thought the phrase “I’m Heavy Duty!” was appropriate. Bonus: it had a punk rock ring to it. The truth is those three words come from a slightly goofy but totally kick-ass song by the heavy metal band Judas Priest. I have yet to post that record, but rest assured that it will be done.
After I was done with the brain surgery story I decided to start blogging my record collection. My wife Mary and I have thousands of records and CDs. Both of us worked at record stores when we were younger and for a few years I even owned a record store with my brother Grayson. I was telling a friend that we had so many records we never played, and that I was determined to play every single one at least one more time and decide whether to keep it. I started working my way through in alphabetical order and somewhere near the end of the letter “A” I decided I should start blogging the process. I always include pictures and the photographs here are meant to show these records as the real world artifacts they indeed are, and not just digital images.
A couple years later I’ve started to get help on I’m Heavy Duty! from some friends, and it’s no longer just about my record collection. We write about old music, new music, my record collection, live shows, and anything you can think of related to music.
If there is some music you think we should hear please let us know.
Stay punk rock.
Tracy
