It’s K day! OK, I know, it’s been K day for over a week. But this one is worth waiting for. Klarcnova is an Asheville trio that includes Andy John, our kids’ guitar teacher. Yes, Andy is the guitarist in the band. I just got around to listening to this album about a week ago and it’s all I’ve been playing since. I love the whole thing, including the sweet “naked” production, the excellent playing, and tasty songs. My favorite is probably “Thumbprint.” It’s a spicy Latin jazz number, complete with a fast-tempo jazz odyssey in the middle. Klarcnova is a very eclectic and excellent album. This is one for you Jazzy G.

Check out the Klarcnova MySpace page.

Andy is currently on the road playing with The Lithuanian Empire in Canada.

Here I was all set to get my blues-jazz/jazz-blues Mach 2 groove on and “Thumbprint” isn’t on their MySpace page. “No spicy Latin jazz for you!” I’m digging “Kuiper Belt” though — it’s just a wah-wah (and maybe a little cowbell) away from near-constant-rotation-worthiness.

So we just got back from our first family vacation (like, actual non-family-obligation oriented vacation). Spent a week in Cali — SF, Monterey, a little East Bay action. We haven’t even quite gotten back onto east coast time, which made first day o’ school this morning a challenge for all concerned ;^) Take care!

You can hear a snippet of “Thumbprint” in the pay-for sampler module below the other songs.

[…] I was listening to Rodrigo y Gabriela’s version of Metallica’s “Orion” this Saturday and decided I should play the original, which ended up turning into a Metallica history lesson for my son Mars. Then, coincidentally on Sunday I got another, and unexpected, dose of Master of Puppets. We were at our kids’ music recital where most of the tunes were seasonally-correct holiday stuff. But then this one middle-school-age-looking youngster came up to play the title track, “Master of Puppets.” He was even wearing the t-shirt. He has the same cool teacher as my kids, and his teacher accompanied him on bass. There is nothing simple about this music. It’s intense in every way, but the kid did a solid job getting pretty far through the song then stopped somewhat abruptly before the pretty bridge and solos. […]
